Yle Explore is an alternative and playful approach to news consumption. Based on Yle’s news articles, the app encourages the users for a ‘balanced news diet’ through data collection.
The project’s aim is to challenge passive news consumption. The app features a main overview with a playful and abstract look, which presents news in an explorative way. Each item coming in the center is a news article recommended for the user. By tapping on these items, the user can access news articles provided by Yle’s database.
The second core function of the app is the balanced readings tab. It gives the reader information about what he/she reads and how much time is spent on different categories of readings. Based on this data, the app will adjust items coming in the main overview and thus suggest more balanced readings.
